Formerly known as S+F Merivale, this much-loved local evolved into The Little Taphouse with a renewed focus on community, great beer, famous pizzas and creating a space that truly feels like home.
The name may have changed, but the heart of the place never did.
We’re still here pouring proper pints, serving generous plates, welcoming wagging tails, and creating the kind of atmosphere that turns first visits into regular rituals.

The rebrand to The Little Taphouse wasn’t about becoming bigger - it was about becoming more us. More neighbourhood-focused. More relaxed. More welcoming.
We wanted to create a Christchurch pub where locals feel proud to bring their mates. A place that balances quality craft beer and great food with an easy-going, come-as-you-are atmosphere.

As one of the most loved dog-friendly pubs in Christchurch, we’re proud that dogs are welcome inside and out, water bowls are always ready, and yes, there’s a menu just for them. Because a proper local pub includes the whole family.

Sparge and Brewser aren’t just mascots, they’re part of the personality of The Little Taphouse.
Our two gorgeous golden retrievers are often found greeting guests, supervising the bar, or strategically positioning themselves near anyone who looks like they might drop pizza crust.
Sparge, the wise old soul, and Brewser, the enthusiastic sidekick, perfectly capture the spirit of the pub - friendly, relaxed, and always up for a good time. They’re a reminder that this isn’t just a venue. It’s a living, breathing local.
